 (This is the 10th entry to Holding On: Essay Writing Contest on the COVID-19 Pandemic.)

Silence further tethered our scare not to trail where we once knew were safe but now have become a threat to life; and the deeper I heaved a sigh for the thought of what awaits us amid the pandemic, the weaker was my grip for the faith I have within myself—life is hard to live, so is living for life.

Later that day of March 2020, classes were finally suspended in my university as the last school to amend class suspension, and I admit I am one of those who celebrated, neither have I anticipated lockdown nor quarantine. Life was even harder dealing with, from executing finances to being anxious about being twenty years old to be legal in passing checkpoints to access goods and medicine. At a young age, I stood as parent to my sisters since my mother took risk working abroad, and my father is no foundation as feeble bamboos he made for our shelter, he, too, left when he could no longer take parenting responsibilities.

News aired about people gasping for air, dying in the arms of none but of rough lanes fed my Facebook wall as an alarum how treacherous this new variant of virus be. People panicked and bought groceries that could feed them for months, hoarded face masks for their own greed to outlive—a pre-apocalyptic mise-en-scène that left me uneasy because if this was a movie that came to life, my sisters and I barely could have survived. Perhaps, I thought, living is hard, and it is what people will exert effort to die for.

I feared of having nothing to eat due to scarcity, so that was when we only ate twice a day to save food; I feared one of us would be infected, and that was when I got to strictly prohibit my sisters to leave the house; but what I feared most was the idea that my mother was overseas working her heart out as a domestic helper, anxious about her health since cases were rampant in the country. Yet, in spite of everything, I still was able to rant and harangue how lousy my father was for leaving me the responsibility that was for him, and for my mother who had chosen to work than staying with us. I could no longer think right for some time because I was in rage of having an empty hand, but there was nothing I could do, I was too young. If we were to die, better off be dead due to the virus than die because of starvation. That would be a shame, I thought.

Bored, I sneaked in my Facebook wall and scrolled wherever my newsfeed took a halt; seconds later I realized I was reading a post from a common friend of his thought about the street children and the aged, where shelter was no safe for refuge, and face masks that cost akin to the food they barely could purchase to eat for a day; they relied solely on people they could beg for coins but now had no one to ask for since suspicion and distrusts were stereotyped on them. It left a pang on my chest, realized I was beyond grateful—I had a shelter for refuge, and the generosity of the people in our neighborhood had helped us survived. I gaped outside our window, breathed in massive amount of clean air to appreciate that I was still living in comfort. Perhaps, like what my mother have said, in order to appreciate greater things is to appreciate the value of smaller things first.

Silence tethers our scare not to trail where we once have thought were safe, akin to ashes we once burned in ebb from our past—a bait that kept us caged because of our intentions to live but forget what living is about; I thought keeping track of the reasons why we suffer was what would make us go through life, but keeping track of the reasons in order to live is enough reason to hold on, a strong grip of faith I have within myself to be alive.

Notice distribution and disconnection will start in all other areas of SUKELCO for the MCOs with unpaid February, May, June and July 2020 bills

SUKELCO PUBLIC ADVISORY

This is to inform our Member-Consumer-Owners (MCOs) that we are now distributing Notice of Disconnection for various municipalities in the SUKELCO coverage area. Disconnection implementation has also begun in Esperanza for February and June 2020 bills.

Effective August 1, 2020, notice distribution and disconnection will start in all other areas of SUKELCO for the MCOs with unpaid February, May, June and July 2020 bills.

Meanwhile, MCOs with unpaid March and April 2020 bills can still settle their accounts up to August 31, 2020. Unpaid March and April bills (ECQ period) will be given final notice of disconnection and will be subject for disconnection starting September 1, 2020.

To our beloved people of Esperanza, it is unfortunate that we have 1 confirmed COVID-19 case reported as of today, June 28, 2020 in Barangay Pamantingan. The patient already finished the 14-days quarantine and is now under strict monitoring and isolation and in stable condition. The situation is under control and the patient is properly isolated/quarantined.

During this time of crisis, the Local Government Unit of Esperanza under the leadership of Mayor Charles Federic Ploteña and Incident Commander Doc Gilson Laspinas and the rest of the Inter-agency Task Force Esperanza and local officials will do everything to contain the positive case and maintain the safety of our community.

These are challenging and uncertain times, so we really need the COOPERATION, SUPPORT and FAITH of everybody. As family and community we are confident that we can get through this together. We heal as one!

The World Health Organization (WHO) advice to wear FACE MASKs in Public Place | Keep Social Distancing and Wear Face Mask in Public Place

The World Health Organization (WHO) has changed its advice on face masks, saying they should be worn in public where social distancing is not possible to help stop the spread of coronavirus.

The global body said new information showed they could provide "a barrier for potentially infectious droplets".

Some countries already recommended or mandate face coverings in public.

The WHO had previously argued there was not enough evidence to say that healthy people should wear masks.

However, WHO director-general Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Friday that "in light of evolving evidence, the WHO advises that governments should encourage the general public to wear masks where is widespread transmission and physical distancing is difficult, such as on public transport, in shops or in other confined or crowded environments".

The organisation had always advised that mnedical face masks should be worn by people who are sick and by those caring for them.

It is with great joy and gladness that we announce the resumption of our public Masses.

Schedule of Masses are as follows: SATURDAY (Anticipated Mass) 4:30PM ; SUNDAY 5:30AM, 7:30AM, and 9:00AM. The Anticipated Mass will begin today, June 6, 2020.

We urge you, our dear parishioners, to observe the following health protocols.

1. Senior Citizens (aged 60 and above) and minors (aged 21 and below) are advised to stay home and attend live masses available on fb and television channels.
2. Please never leave your homes without wearing your FACE MASK.
3. Hand washing is a must as we enter the parish premises.
4. Mass goers will have to submit/list their name, address/chapel, and contact number for contact tracing. (Rest assured these pieces of information will be kept confidential.)
5. Observe physical distancing in entering and going out of the parish premises.

On this Solemnity of the Triune God, we thank him for the grace of bringing us back together with joy but most importantly being mindful of our social responsibility by following the above mentioned health protocols prescribed by our National Government.

Narito ang EXECUTIVE ORDER No. 36 (EO No. 36) ng Sultan Kudarat Province na nagsasailalim sa buong probinsiya sa MODIFIED GENERAL COMMUNITY QUARANTINE mula June 1 - June 15, 2020.

Sa ilalim ng EO na ito, niluluwagan na ang mga patakaran na dapat sundin ng mga residente ng Tacurong City at buong probinsiya subalit pinag-uutos pa rin ang pagsunod sa mga health protocols tulad ng pagsuot ng face masks at social distancing.

Limitado pa rin ang mga tao na maaaring makapasok sa mga establisyemento samantalang mayroon pa ring mga recreational facilities na hindi pa maaaring magbukas.

Narito pa ang ilan sa mga nilalaman ng EO No. 36:

▶Bawal pa ring lumabas ang may edad 21 pababa (21 yrs old and below) at edad 60 pataas (60 yrs old and above)
▶Wala nang ODD-EVEN SCHEME subalit nililimitahan pa rin ang bilang ng mga pasahero
▶Wala nang No Movement Sunday
▶ Pwede nang mag-dine in sa mga restaurant at ibang mga kainan subalit sa limitadong kapasidad lamang
▶Pinapayagan na ang lahat ng uri ng Mass Gathering (maliban sa ilang exemptions na nakasaad sa EO 36) subalit limitado sa 50% na kapasidad lamang.

Lahat ng dadalo sa mga mass gatherings tulad ng misa o church service ay dapat ilista ang pangalan, araw ng pagdalo, address, at contact details upang mapadali ang contact tracing sa hinaharap.

▶ Hindi na kailangan ang City Quarantine Pass, Municipal Quarantine Pass, at Barangay Quarantine Pass.
▶Ang curfew hours ay 9PM hanggang 4AM pa rin.
▶Maaaring magbukas ang mga establishment hanggang 8PM.
▶Para sa mga papasok ng Tacurong City mula sa mga lugar na may confirmed cases ng COVID-19, basahin lamang ang mga requirements sa EO na ito.
▶Mayroon pa ring LIQUOR BAN o ang pagbabawal sa lahat ng uri ng alak.

Good Day to all aspiring cadets! Are you ready to take the PMA challenge? You may now access the Cadet Online Application System for the PMA Entrance Examination.

MANILA, Philippines – Ready to embrace the profession of arms? The Philippine Military Academy (PMA) opened on May 1 the application system for 2020 entrance examinations (PMAEE). View on this page the comprehensive details of application process, requirements, qualifications and reminders.

PMA entrance exam this year is set on August 30 in 44 sites nationwide. Successful applicants will be part of PMA Class of 2025.

QUALIFICATIONS
Natural-born Filipino
Physical fitness and good moral character
Single, never married or pregnant and not supporting any child or children
High school graduate with a general average grade of at least 85 percent
At least 5 feet in height
No administrative or criminal case
At least 17 but not older than 22 years old on April 1, 2020

CADET APPLICATION: How to apply?

There are three ways to apply for PMA entrance exam: via online, mail or hand-carry to Office of Cadet Admission in Baguio City.

Online application: High School Form 137 or Form 138 and NSO copy of Birth Certificate are the necessary documents for our Online Application. All interested applicants are requested to scan (pdf file format) said documents and attach it to the Online Application System. Check out here to apply.

COVERAGE OF EXAM

PMAEE aims to measure the mental ability of applicants in the areas of MATH (Algebra and Geometry), ENGLISH (Grammar, Composition, and Reading and Comprehension) and Abstract Reasoning which is called SPMA (Verbal and Numerical Reasoning and Pattern Analysis).

NOTE: The exam is FREE.

REMINDERS ON EXAM DAY

After receiving the Test Permit from the OCA, the applicant will report to the designated Examination Center on the date indicated on the permit. The applicant must bring the Test Permit so that s/he will be allowed by the Proctors to take the Exam.

NOTE: Taking exam in another test center (not the designated center on permit) is allowed. Go the center on exam day and inform the proctor about your circumstances.

What to bring?

2 x 2 ID Picture
Valid ID (preferably school/driver's license)
at least 2 pencils ( no. 2)

How long is the exam?

On examination day, the whole morning (7am to 11am) will be for administrative aspects of the exam (fill up forms, limited physical examination, etc). The exam proper starts at exactly 12.00 noon and will last up to 4.30 pm.

Do's and Don'ts

1. DO NOT FOLD, ROLL, DISFIGURE NOR WRITE ON TOP OF YOUR ANSWER SHEET as this may cause problems with the reading machine.

2. When shading your chosen answer, make sure that you do not extend your shading outside the circle. Do not shade more than one circle. Do not make any stray pencil marks on the answer sheet. If you wish to change your answer, erase your old answer completely and shade your new answer. If you do not know the answer, make an intelligent guess. Do not leave any item unanswered.

The following acts will cause you to be disqualified:
Cheating
Talking to other applicants during the test
Passing to or receiving anything from another applicant or unauthorized persons during the test
Using any of the following: calculators, cellular phones, or any other electronic gadget

PMAEE RESULTS AND MOVING FORWARD TASKS

If the applicant passes the Exam, s/he will receive a written notice from OCA informing him of the result of the Exam and instructing him to report to AFP, Medical Center (AFPMC). He will then undergo the Complete Physical Examination (CPE) where his medical, physical, mental and emotional condition will be examined to determine his readiness and fitness for the military training in the Academy.

Minimum Requirements for Physical Fitness Test (PFT):
Push Ups: Male 30 reps; Female 25 reps
Situps: Male 30 reps; Female 25 reps
Pullups: Male 10 reps; Female 7 reps
Run: Male and Female 3.2km

Medical Disqualifications
Color blind
Any communicable disease
Physical deformities
Scoliosis
Tattoos
Other medical conditions as determined by AFP Medical Board Nr 1

NOTE: CPE takes days, so a cadet candidate is required to stay in the billeting area provided by the Academy in AFPMC.

If the applicant successfully makes it, he will be required to report to PMA Liaison Office in AFPMC for final processing during the last week of March before s/he will be brought to Philippine Military Academy (PMA) on April 01 for the Oath-Taking Ceremony and Reception Rites, signaling his official entry to the Academy as member of a PMA Class.

PREVIOUS EXAM

In the August 2019 exams, a total of 1,629 out of 33,000 examinees passed the tests.

Meanwhile, 1,506 out of 29,601 successfully hurdled the September 2018 PMAEE.
